Functional testing

Four testing domains

Functional testing covers a number of quantitative diagnostic procedures which provide an evaluation of an organ’s functional value or its capacity to fulfil its physiological function.

The medical technology services provides by the Functional Testing Unit of the Hôpital Franco-Britannique cover both the needs of the hospital’s patients (hospitalised or out-patient) and those referred from outside (outside medical professionals, hospitals, clinics, dispensaries, etc.).

The service has a long-standing reputation and is widely recognised for its expertise in ultra-sound imaging for heart conditions related to the immune system (amylose, systemic lupus erythematosus, scleroderma, sarcoidosis, polymyositis, Behçet’s disease, anti-phospholipid syndrome, Sneddon’s syndrome, etc.).

These services are charged at social security rates (patient’s contribution paid by the patient or their top-up insurance),with no excess charge. The only exception for this is interventions related to sports medicine (consultations, sports exertion tests), which come under the liberal regime. Part of stress echocardiography and referred cardiology consultations also come under the liberal regime and are subject to sector 1 rates.

All examinations require an appointment and a medical prescription.

The service’s activity is divided into four domains:

Cardiovascular testing

Respiratory testing

Sleep testing

Neurophysiological testing

Outside specialist consultations

Sports medicine and physiology

  • Sports trauma consultations – Medical sporting advice
  • Sporting effort testing (with or without lactate measurement)
